Aerial Trams

Aerial trams are open air gondolas which move along a suspension wire. These tours are great for all ages and especially for those with limited mobility, making Costa Rica's rainforest accessible to everyone. A naturalist guide will explain the layers of the rainforest canopy and point out plants and animals of interest. Tours generally last less than an hour with access to ancillary attractions and activities such as ziplines, animal exhibits and guided walks. It is easier to see birds and monkeys on these tours, as you are at their level. Compare that with having to peer up into the treetops with a sunny, backlit sky.

Tours
Arenal

The tram ride near Arenal is shorter than most, but yields stunning views of the volcano and Lake Arenal. Perfect for all ages and physical abilities, this is a non-strenuous way to view and learn about the rainforest and all of its canopy layers. For the more adventurous, you can traverse down the mountain on ziplines.
San Jose

Daily tours available from San Jose take you to a 1200 acre rainforest reserve on the Caribbean coast. It shares a 6.5 mile border with Braulio Carrillo National Park featuring virgin rainforest and a host of activities. The aerial tram takes you through rainforest treetops and across forested valleys where you are able to see many birds and animals. This location also has a butterfly and frog garden. You can also participate in bird watching tours, hiking tours and zipline tours.
Central Pacific

A cascading 40-foot waterfall, giant rainforest trees and panoramic views of the ocean are all part of the ride. Open-air gondolas with canvas awnings seat eight passengers and a naturalist guide. The tour also includes a 45-minute guided nature walk and tour of the sepentarium exhibit featuring over 20 different types of snakes. A zipline tour can be your mode of transport for the return journey down the mountain.
